How exactly does the X39 patch increase mitochondrial function?

Why do the instructions say to wear a patch for 12 hours on and then 12 hours off?

First, this was the schedule that was used for the clinical studies, so this is the only “official” recommendation that can be put in the instructions.

Secondly, here’s some more science for you: “Attenuation” is the gradual loss of signal strength or intensity of a wave. For this scenario, we have light waves traveling through skin and soft tissue. After 12 hours or so, the body responds less to the incoming light from the patch and photobiomodulation decreases. This is similar to being in the sun long enough to get your daily dose of Vitamin D – once you get enough UVB sunlight exposure, your body stops producing Pre-D3, and basically stops responding to any “extra” UVB light coming its way.

To deal with attenuation, you want to give your body a break from the incoming light for approximately 12 hours and then expose it to that wavelength again for 12 hours (until it has had enough), then take another break for 12 hours (and so forth). Because the body attenuates the signal over time, it is best to wear a specific patch for (approximately) 12 hours on and 12 hours off. Can I reuse a patch for a second day?

Yes, it won’t be as effective at reflecting modulated light back on the second day, but this is a good way to get more for your money. The patches are stabilized (with stabilized oxygen) for a total of 24 hours, but the active ingredients begin to break down near the end of this 24 hours. If you wear a new patch for 12 hours, take it off for 12 hours, you can choose to wear it again the next day for 12 hours and then discard. If you want full potency for a recent injury or want to see quicker results, then use a new patch every day.

I use tape to help stick the patch on for a second day since the adhesive is usually used up. Also, if you use a patch for 12 hours and forget to use it the next day, the active ingredients are still breaking down (they are not stabilized anymore). It is estimated that a previously activated patch can last up to 48 hours total after the stabilizers are gone.

Where do you place the different Lifewave patches?

Lifewave used accupressure points for the placement of the patches throughout their clinical studies and therefore must recommend the same locations for patch placement in their “official” instructions. In practice, most patches have been found to work well placed anywhere on the body or at a point that needs more support. Some patches like IceWave or Energy Enhancer may need more precise placement to work best.

Accupressure points have a lot of nerves and blood flow and can be pressed and held with a finger for a short time to help the body regulate the systems of the body. Lifewave uses these same “accupoints” for patch placement since the reflected light from the patch can also mimic a finger being pressed at that location.

This way the patches can support the body through the accupressure system in addition to the specific wavelengths it sends to the body for increasing specific peptides.

What patches are best to start with?

We recommend starting out with both the X39 and Aeon patches

How fragile are the patches?

The crystal lattice is dried onto the gauze patch, so it is rather stable and secure and won’t break down through movement. However, you do need to be careful about exposing them to heat (or an infrared source) before you want to use them.

This is why I would recommend wrapping your unused patches in tinfoil or keep them in tins of some kind (this will block any infrared light getting to the patches). You don’t want to have them in front of you at your kitchen table every time you sit down since you may activate them unintentionally.

You also don’t want to expose them to extreme hot water in a hot tub or an extra hot shower. Here are some tins you can get on Amazon to store them or carry with you easily. You can also just buy some mints (Altoids) and save the tin for storing patches.

Do I need to wear patches long-term?

It depends on your goals. If you have a recent/acute injury and you want to heal things more quickly or make sure everything heals well, then you may only need to wear patches for a few weeks while you heal up from the injury, surgery, etc.

If you appreciate the ongoing benefits from the patches and want to keep signaling to your body for repair, increased energy, etc. then you will need to keep sending that signal with another patch (one that is made with organic or active & natural materials).

Because the patches are made with organic materials they break down over time (within 48 hours after activated or the stabilized oxygen is gone).
